A Closer Look at The Top Sales
Many of these highest value domains entered the market after previously being owned by a company that had since restructured, entered an insolvency proceeding or been acquired.
asap.com
$404,000 USD
# 15
ASAP Inc, which began as a local food delivery provider, filed for Chapter 7 bankruptcy and in April 2024 and was liquidated.[1] asap.com was its main domain was resold in September to an investor who is now marketing it for sale. In our opinion this domain hold significantly higher value than the sale price.
fair.com

# 7
This domain was previously owned by Fair Technologies, a startup car-leasing company which was once valued at $1B before hitting financial trouble and having its assets purchased by Shift Technologies, Inc. [2] fair.com is yet to relaunch but it has been purchased by a brand holder for future use.
shift.com
$1,365,000 USD
# 3
Shift Technologies feature twice in the 2024 list as they later filed for Chapter 11 Bankruptcy themselves and their domain shift.com was sold for $1.3M in March. This was the 3rd largest reported domain sale of 2024 and is up from the $385K it was purchased for by Shift in 2015. Shift.com is now owned by a web browser Start Up.
# 1
HIGHEST VALUE SALE OF 2024
$14,000,000 USD
25-03-2024
rocket.com
The number 1 domain sale for the year was rocket.com, which is the former domain name of Aerojet Rocketdyne, a manufacturer of rockets and propulsion systems for space, defence, civil and commercial applications. Aerojet Rocketdyne was acquired by American defense company L3Harris for $4.7B in 2023, who without apparent need for the domain, liquidated it for this incredible sum. They have held onto Aerojet Rocketdyne’s other domain, Aerojet.com, which for now redirects to L3Harris’ main website.[3] Rocket.com was purchased by Rocket LLC, who operate in the personal mortgage and real estate market in the US.
Making Every Dollar Count in Domain Sales
Overall, NameBio.com reported $187m USD in sales for 2024, up from $159.3m in 2023, with 145K domain sales at an average price of $1290. Medium value sales (between $3K and $25K) accounted for 6.4% of the overall number of sales, and 30.6% of the overall value of sales at $57.2m. Our research suggests that these domains are frequently undervalued during insolvency or restructuring, often bundled as part of an overall asset deal or IP valuation, or allowed to expire.
In the past, the cost to sell these domains has likely driven this undervaluation, however with our commission only model we hope to partner with restructuring and insolvency firms to bring more of these domains to market.
